NEW CLASS OFFERINGS for 2022:

NO CLASS FRIDAY JUNE 10TH.

FRIDAY JUNE 17TH: DRAWING WITH THE ENVELOPE APPROACH

In this class and some beyond,  will be using the envelope approach. (I’m sure we will continue this work further.) Good drawing will result in good paintings or well constructed paintings. Too often the task of drawing is started with direct line instead of using a sketching approach to hone in on the subject. Using the envelope method will help you block in shapes and work towards refinement.  I will tell you how I see what I am looking at ( orientation height, length and width etc.) and use of the drawing tool at the moment.

I want to help you become confident in making the shapes you see in front of you be it from life or in a reference and become confident that “you can draw nearly anything”. On Friday I will bring an object for your drawing pleasure.  You will surround it in the middle of the room seated with your drawing pad in your lap. It may be something you aren’t interested in, but when we are learning to draw, subject selection can be limiting. We wouldn’t want to say “Oh, no, I don’t draw this or that.” However, we do know our limitations. Eventually you do grow to being selectable. You have a limited interest in subjects, but you have a strong confidence. Be persistent. Draw often. Always have a sketchbook handy and develop an approach to capturing your subject regardless of what it is. I know it won’t come easy for everyone. Starting with the basic construction of forms, you may just see how the process develops.

For the class bring the following:, Pencils ( bring 2 ) ( #2 is good to begin with) Eraser, Sketch pad or paper at least 12 x 16 or so. Lap board, clips (for loose paper ), Razor knife, Piece of sandpaper, light grade ( or a sanding pad ) Cheap bristle brush for sweeping away erasures. ( get them at the dollar store I suppose) and a small rag or paper towels to wipe off the pencil after sharpening.

I recommend you buy “How to Draw what You See” by Rudy De Reyna. Paperback, Amazon I would say.

For the Future: Print out and these patterns if you can. We will make use of them at a later time.

NEW CLASS COMING FOR SEPTEMBER 9th through October 14th 2022

Beginning September 9th, there will be a new format for the class similar to the sessions once held at the Artstore. I would bring in a painting for the lesson. That painting is then divided into three vertical sections. Each week will focus on a section as a separate work. Once the three sections are done, one or two more sessions will give you time to reconstruct the painting from the pieces you create.

This will require your commitment to the class and an upfront fee of $180.00 ( 30.00 per session for 6 weeks ) Of course, things do come up I understand. I’m sure you will find it interesting and you will know what you are doing each week. I know Columbus weekend is in there so some may travel, possibly myself.

Put these dates on your calendar. If for any reason I will not be available for a class, we will skip and move one week ahead.

See you then. Paul
