During my summer on Cape Cod in Wellfleet, I would go to the pier looking for subject matter. At a time when the tide was out, I was wandering on the beach alongside the docks. I saw this view one afternoon of Ocean Bird, an old out of commission fishing vessel tied to the pier. Looking down on her, the floorboards are rotted and all the equipment is rusted. I was told many artists come by to paint the boat thus it remains. Later on the summer she was pulled set on the yard in a cradle. Still an interesting thing for painting, the town was asked to leave it for the artists. I suppose it could have become a hazard since my last trip to the cape in 2020, Ocean Bird was gone. Its too bad we had to lose her to the scrap heap, but she had served her time as a working vessel and as a subject of many paintings.
