I leaned about Shadow Rock from a guide on the Ausable River while looking for some significant painting references. The Ausable River in in the Adirondacks of New York nearby the town of Lake Placid. My wife and I traveled to the area a few times mostly in the winter, but the fall offers much more in scenery for painting. There are a few other images on this site from that same trip. The Flats and Monument Falls are two. Shadow Rock gets the name as its the place where many fish will lie in the cooler waters dur to the “shadow” cast from the over hanging rock. Fly fisherman will float their lures above the rock and let if drift by the rock where the fish lie in wait. Its a very popular spot and this guy in the image was just scooping up his prey in his net when I was there. Lucky me.
