One of the many Lake Freighters that travel the St. Lawrence Seaway, the John D. Leitch, a self-discharging bulk carrier, from Toronto’s Canadian Ship Limes passes Boldt’s Castle on Heart Island. Built in 1967, the ship is 223 ft. long, 23 ft wide with a gross tonnage of 22080. The bow of the ship looks much different in that its shorter in length and rests well out near the bow. The John D is an enormous vessel, and its age is obvious and at the same time, visually entertaining. I know this would be an ideal subject for the ink and WC wash approach.
