Description

One of the many Lake Freighters that travel the St. Lawrence Seaway, the John D. Leitch from Toronto’s Canadian Ship Limes makes its way passed Boldt’s Castle on Heart Island. The John D is a self-discharging bulk carrier.  Built in 1967, the ship is 223 ft. long, 23 ft wide with a gross tonnage of 22080. The bow of the ship looks much different in that its shorter in length and rests well out near the bow. The John D is an enormous vessel and its age is obvious and at the same time, visually entertaining. I know this would be an ideal subject for the ink and WC wash approach.
