During a plein air competition in Rockport (Ontario) a number of years ago, I set up on the entrance road that takes you down into the small hamlet. Surprisingly, at the base of this hill is a parking lot typically full of tour buses. People from all over come to this little town in Canada to take tour boat rides to see the Thousand Islands. Some will be taken to the popular Boldt Castle on the American side. Tourists are dropped off for a few hours to walk about the island. On schedule, the boat will return for the trip back to Rockport. Some rides are a few hours long traveling up river from Rockport towards the Thousand Islands Bridge, through the narrow passages between islands and back to port. I have watched these boats for most of my lifetime. My cottage is a bit more than a mile up river on the TI Parkway so Rockport is a place I have been numerous times. Its a great place to go paint and I wish they would hold another plein air someday. Otherwise, I will simply go on my own and enjoy myself.
